POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team won its second-straight match Sunday morning with a 6-1 victory over visiting Arizona Christian. The Bengals once again claimed the early doubles point and won five-of-six singles matches to seal the match win.
In doubles play,
Quentin Wacquez and
Francis Filipovich started things off with a 6-1 win over ACU's Marcelo Balderrama and Gabo Marcelo at the No. 3 doubles position while
Bjorn Scheepbouwer and
Keegan Sullivan teamed up for the 6-4 win at the No. 2 doubles position to earn the doubles point.
In singles play,
Josh Goodwin stared things off for the Bengals with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Balderrama at the No. 3 singles position. Idaho State won four of the next five matches, all in two sets, to claim the 6-1 match win.
"I'm very proud of how the team performed today against a very strong Arizona Christian team," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "Our guys battled hard in doubles play, coming from behind to take the point. They followed that up with a very gritty performance in singles play. Overall, I'm very pleased with their performance."
Idaho State returns to play Feb. 11 as it travels to Boise, Idaho to face the Broncos of Boise State at 11 a.m.
