Women's Basketball Faces Seattle, Washington This Week

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball team officially opens the 2017-18 season this week with games at Seattle and at Washington. The Bengals face the Seattle Redhawks Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. MST followed by the Washington Huskies Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. MST.

BENGAL PREVIEW

· Idaho State returns five letter winners and two starters from last season's Big Sky Conference tournament championship team. The Bengals finished with a 19-14 overall record, including an 10-8 mark in conference play, good for sixth. The Bengals advanced to the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship game for the second-straight year but fell to No. 1 Montana State 62-56.

· The Bengals return their top three scorers from a season ago: Grace Kenyon (10.8 ppg), Saylair Grandon (10.8 ppg) and Estefania Ors (9.5 ppg). Idaho State also welcomes Brooke Blair back to the lineup after sitting out last season with an injury. During the 2015-16 season, Blair ranked second on the squad in scoring with 12.4 points per game. Idaho State also returns nearly 50 percent of its rebounding core including last season's leading rebounder, Grace Kenyon (6.8 rpg).

· This season, the Bengals were picked to finish eighth in the Big Sky Coaches' Preseason Poll and seventh by the media.

· Head Coach Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 150-131 overall record (.534) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.

SCOUTING OPPONENTS

SEATTLE

· The Redhawks dominated Central Washington in their opening exhibition contest with a score of 104-57. Seven players scored in double-figures, led by WAC Preseason Player of the Year Alexis Montgomery with 17.

· Montgomery led Seattle U in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg) and assists (2.6 apg) a season ago and was named First Team All-WAC for her efforts.

· Last season, the Redhawks averaged 63.7 points and 37.1 rebounds per game while shooting 39 percent from the floor.

· Head Coach Susy Barcomb is in her second season at the helm of the program.

· SERIES REVIEW: This will be the third time these programs have met; ISU carries a 2-0 record.

WASHINGTON

· The Huskies return one starter and six letter winners from last season's Sweet Sixteen squad that finished 29-6 overall with a 15-3 mark in Pac-12 play.

· Washington averaged 85.0 points per game last season with 42.0 rebounds per game. The Huskies lost the 2017 Player of the Year Kelsey Plum who averaged 31.7 ppg for the Huskies last season.

· Washington is led by Head Coach Jody Wynn who is in her first season with the Huskies.

· SERIES REVIEW: The Huskies lead the overall series 3-0; this will be the first time in 30 years that the two teams have faced each other with the last meeting on Dec. 4, 1987.
