POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team looks to extend its win streak to five as it faces Sacramento State Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. The game will serve as ISU's annual PINK game to spread awareness for women's cancer; fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State leads the conference in scoring, averaging an even 81 points per game, but the Hornets rank dead last in scoring defense, giving up an average of 85.3 points per contest. Currently, Sac State is 8-14 on the year with a 4-7 mark in conference play.
Four players average double figures for the Hornets, led by junior guard Maranne Johnson at 15.5 points per game, good for eighth in the conference. Gretchen Harrigan averages 15.2 per game, while Emily Eason and Ashlyn Crenshaw average 13.2 and 10.4 per game, respectively. Margaret Huntington leads the team and conference in rebounds per game at 9.4 per contest.
Sac State is currently on a three-game slide, dropping contests to EWU and Idaho at home and falling at Weber State Thursday afternoon. As a team, the Hornets average 81.0 points and 40.0 rebounds per game while shooting 37.2 percent from the floor.
Sacramento State is led by Head Coach Bunky Harkleroad who is in his fourth season with the Hornets.
SERIES REVIEW
Idaho State leads the series 35-7, but Sacramento State has won five of the last six meetings. The Hornets won the last game 83-62 in Sacramento on Feb. 13.
BENGAL BITES
- Playing without leading scorer Saylair Grandon, the Bengals rallied for a solid 53-47 win against visiting Portland State Thursday evening. Isabel Vara de Rey and Estefania Ors picked up the scoring slack, finishing with 13 and 10 points respectively to lead the squad.
- Through 22 games this season, the Bengals are 13-9 with a 7-4 mark in BSC play. ISU averages 59.5 points and 41.5 rebounds per game which ranks third in the conference. As a squad, ISU limits its opponents to 60.5 points per contest to lead the Big Sky.
