BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team fell to Boise State 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the Eagle Tennis Courts in Boise, Idaho. The Bengals forced Boise State to three sets in every singles match, but ISU was unable to claim a victory in the match loss.
"We got off to a rough start; doubles didn't play very well," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "Everyone responded well and came out and fought extremely hard in singles play. We pushed Boise State to three sets in all six matches. The guys showed a lot of courage and tenacity in executing their game plan, and we're simply getting better every time we step out on to the court."
Idaho State (2-3) struggled in doubles play, falling 6-3 at the No. 1 position and 6-2 at the No. 2 position to give the doubles point to Boise State (2-6). In singles play,
Josh Goodwin,
Keegan Sullivan and
Haseeb Khan all won their first set at the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 positions, while
Sebastian Edin,
Francis Filipovich and
Bjorn Scheepbouwer all rebounded from a first set loss to win the second set at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions. Every single Bengal forced three sets, but Boise State prevailed to win four-straight singles matches to win the match 5-0.
"Boise State is a very strong team, and I'm pleased with the direction things are going," Rodel said. "We have some things we need to work on need to continue to get better at some of the details in closing out some of these tight matches."
Idaho State is back in action Friday, Feb. 20 at Seattle at 4 p.m. MST.
