Women's Basketball Returns For Final Home Games of Season

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball team returns home for its final two home games of the season. The Bengals host Idaho Thursday at 7 p.m. and Eastern Washington Saturday at 2 p.m.; both games will be played at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. This week's home stand is one of the most important of the season as Idaho State, Idaho and Eastern Washington all carry a 9-5 conference record and are vying for the fourth tournament seed, guaranteeing a first-round bye.

SCOUTING IDAHO

Idaho is 14-11 on the season with a 9-5 mark in conference play. The Vandals average 71.9 points per game, good for fourth in the Big Sky, and 37.7 rebounds per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the floor. Three players average double-figures for Idaho, led by sophomore guard Mikayla Ferenz at 17.8 points per game, good for second in the conference. Geraldine Mccorkell leads the squad in rebounding at 6.6 per game.

Idaho is led by Head Coach Jon Newlee who is in his ninth season with the program.

LAST TIME OUT: ISU put up 67 points in Moscow, shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent from three to hand Idaho its first home loss of the season. Saylair Grandon had a career day, netting a career-high 24 points to go along with six boards, two assists and a steal with just one turnover. Lindsay Brown added a season-high 15 points and Bianca Thacker added a season-high 11 rebounds.

SERIES REVIEW

Idaho leads the all-time series 28-12, but ISU has won six of the last 10 and three of the last five meetings. Idaho State defeated Idaho 67-60 in Moscow earlier this season for its first victory at Idaho since 1983.

BENGAL BITES
  • The Bengals rebounded from a tough 63-56 loss at North Dakota Feb. 16 with a monster 68-58 win at then league-leading Northern Colorado. The Bengals shot 52.4 percent from the floor and dominated the Bears on the glass with a 41-21 advantage. ISU forced UNC, the league's leader in three-point percentage, to shoot 29.2 percent from beyond-the-arc and just 38.2 percent from the floor.
  • Through 25 games this season, the Bengals are 15-10 with a 9-5 mark in BSC play. ISU averages 60.5 points and 41.6 rebounds per game which ranks third in the conference. As a squad, ISU limits its opponents to 60.5 points per contest to lead the Big Sky.
  • With leading scorer Saylair Grandon out with a broken finger, Grace Kenyon leads the Bengals in scoring at 10.4 points per game. Kenyon also leads ISU in rebounding at 6.9 per game, good for 10th in the conference.
