POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State men's tennis team delivered Eastern Washington's first conference loss with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Eagles. The Bengals claimed the doubles point early and won four of six singles matches to earn the win.

"We were able to keep our conference tournament hopes alive with the win today," Head Coach Mark Rodel said. "It was a crucial matchup against a very good Eastern Washington team."

Idaho State (6-5, 2-2 BSC) fell behind 1-0 in doubles play after Eastern Washington (9-5, 4-1 BSC) bested Sebastian Edin and Josh Goodwin 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles position, but the Bengals picked up the final two wins in doubles play to earn the doubles point. Quentin Wacquez and Francis Filipovich picked up the 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, and Bjorn Scheepbouwer and Keegan Sullivan closed doubles play with a 7-6 battle over Scott Paz and Flavien Raveau at the No. 2 doubles position to give ISU the early 1-0 match lead.

"Doubles came down to the No. 2 doubles position," Rodel said. "Scheepbouwer and Sullivan won in a tiebreaker after saving three match points to earn the doubles point, which was pivotal in this particular match."

In singles play, Filipovich gave the Bengals their first singles win with a two-set win over Raveau at the No. 4 singles position, 6-2, 6-1. Eastern Washington claimed the next singles win as Goodwin fell 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles position, but ISU won three of the next four singles matches to secure the 5-2 victory and deliver EWU's first conference loss of the season.

"We had solid performances in singles play across the board," Rodel said. "They executed the game plan beautifully, and Sebastian Edin gave an exceptional performance against a really very, very good player from Eastern Washington. Overall I'm proud of every single one of our players."
