LAS VEGAS – The Idaho State men's tennis team fell 4-1 at UNLV Tuesday evening at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. It was the Bengals' first outdoor match of the season and they claimed the doubles point early before the defending Mountain West champions took control in singles play.
"We played our first outdoor match in windy, hot conditions," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "Our guys were fantastic in doubles play, and Quentin [Wacquez] and Francis [Filipovich] earned the final win for the doubles point. We needed a tough match to get us adjusted to the outdoors, and overall I am pleased with where we are to date."
Idaho State (6-6) dropped the first doubles match 6-1 to UNLV (10-4) at the No. 1 doubles position, but ISU's
Bjorn Scheepbouwer and
Keegan Sullivan evened things up with a 6-4 win over UNLV's Ruben Alberts and Courtney Lock at the No. 2 doubles position. Wacquez and Filipovich secured the doubles point with a battle at the No. 3 doubles position as they bested Richard Solberg and Adam Gage-Brown 7-6 (7-5).
The Rebels made quick work of the Bengals in singles, winning four matches in two sets while the remaining two matches went unfinished.
Idaho State is back in action Wednesday, March 22 as it faces Southern Utah at 10 a.m. in St. George, Utah.
