POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team continued its explosive offensive performance by pounding out 28 hits and 21 runs in a 12-6 win over Penn State from the Big Ten Conference and a 9-4 win over Buffalo.
Kacie Burnett led of the offensive attack by going 5-9 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Ashlyn Ames,
Sarah Hayes,
Haley Harrison and
Alex Portesi each had four hits. Nine different Bengals had hits on the day.
Harley Wells and
Mariah Mulcahy earned the wins. Wells picked up the win vs. Buffalo, tossing the complete game, scattering eight hits, allowing four runs, three walks and one strike out.
Against Penn State, Mulcahy went the distance, allowing five hits, six runs, four walks and four strike outs.
"We played two complete games today," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "Our bats are coming through. Our defense is more consistent and our pitchers are learning to get through adversity. This will help us each weekend that we play."
In the win over Penn State, ISU scored its 12 runs on 17 hits.
Burnett continued her torrid offensive pace by going 4-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Hayes was 3-4 with four runs scored and one RBI. Ames was 3-3 with one run scored and she tied the school record for most RBIs in a game with seven.
ISU led 5-0 after the top of the third inning. Hayes led off the first inning with an infield single and with two outs Ames double to left-center to drive home the first run of the game.
Idaho State's four run third inning started when
Haley Harrison hit a one-out double to left field and Burnett followed with a single to left-center. Ames then drove in the next two runs with a double down the left field line. With two outs,
Shayna Dahlen had an RBI double and Portesi had an RBI single.

The Bengals added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings and one in the seventh to put the game away.
Against Buffalo, The Bengals fell behind 2-0 after the top of the first inning. Idaho State then scored two runs in the bottom of the second and four in the third to take a 6-2 lead. In the second inning ISU scored its two runs off a Buffalo miscue in the field.
In the four run third inning, Burnett led off with a single up the middle and Ames walked. The bases were loaded after an infield single by Portesi. Dahlen drove in the first two runs on a double to left field.
Jennie Murillo followed with an RBI and
Kelsey Breer drove in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice to center field.
The Bengals added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to put the game away.
Idaho State had 11 hits. Wells earned the win by tossing the complete game and scattering eight hits. Portesi led the offensive attack by going 3-3 with one run scored. Eight different Bengals had hits in the game.
