COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Idaho State women's tennis team fell at Air Force 5-2 Saturday afternoon. The Bengals dropped the doubles point early and fell behind 4-0 in the match before winning two of the last three singles matches.
"We played really tough today," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We fought hard for every point."
In doubles play, Air Force (8-6) swept the Bengals starting with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles followed by a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Madison Fenske and
Hristina Cvetkovic fought at the No. 3 doubles position before falling 6-4.
In singles play, the Falcons took each of the first three matches, winning in two sets at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions.
Melissa Coburn forced three sets at the No. 4 singles position before falling 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.
Megan Poe earned the first point for the Bengals with a win by retirement at the No. 5 singles position, and
Louise-Mare Botes followed it up with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win at the No. 3 singles position. Air Force took the final match in two sets to earn the 5-2 victory.
Idaho State is back in action Sunday, March 5 at 8 a.m. against UTSA at Air Force.
