POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team picked up its second-straight conference win Sunday morning with a 6-1 victory over visiting North Dakota.
"I have to give full credit to North Dakota for coming out with a really strong doubles performance and playing good fundamentals," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "They took the doubles point from us, but I will say that our team responded really well in singles play."
Idaho State (10-7, 5-3 BSC) started doubles play off with a win as
Francis Filipovich and
Quentin Wacquez posted a 6-1 victory over UND's Matt Hokanson and Alex Mailes at the No. 3 doubles position. However North Dakota (4-13, 2-8 BSC) responded with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles followed by a 7-6 battle at No. 1 doubles to take the doubles point.
The Fighting Hawks' lead was short lived as the Bengals rattled of six-straight singles victories to take the match.
"Everyone came out and executed the game plan and competed from start to finish," Rodel said. "I couldn't be more proud of the six singles wins. This win puts us in a really good spot leading in to the final stretch of the Big Sky regular-season play. I'm excited about where we are and the opportunities that lie ahead."
Idaho State hits the road for two conference matches April 8 and 9 at Montana State and Montana.
