POCATELLO, Idaho- The effort and energy was there but the final result wasn't what the Idaho State softball team hoped for as the Bengals lost to Weber State 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium. Idaho State dropped to 12-20 and 5-7 in Big Sky play while Weber State improved to 25-14-1 and 9-3 in league.
Ashlyn Ames held the Weber State offense to four hits and the Bengals didn't commit an error in the field. ISU had six hits, led by two from
Sarah Hayes and
Kacie Burnett.
Emma Bordenkecher tallied the Bengals only run of the game on a homer to left-center in the fourth inning.
Ames struck out four and walked only one.
"It was a heck of a game and both teams played really well," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "It was a great spectator game. Every pitch and every hit meant something. It was just a great game."
Idaho State had opportunities to tie the game or take the lead but were unable to bring the runners home. ISU left three runners on in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the s
seventh inning.
"Yeah, we left too many runners on base," Letts said. "The girls had great energy. They know the stakes and they are excited to come back and play tomorrow. When you have the opportunities with runners in scoring position you have to be tougher."
The series concludes Saturday with a double header beginning at 11 a.m. Prior to the start of the game seniors

Alex Portesi will be honored. Both games will be streamed live with video and game 3 will have live audio.
