PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Idaho State women's tennis season came to a close Friday afternoon as the Bengals fell to No. 1 Northern Arizona 4-0 in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament at the Phoenix Tennis Center in Phoenix, Ariz.
"That was a really tough NAU team we faced today," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We had some good points, but we weren't consistent enough today."
Northern Arizona (18-4) took the lead over Idaho State (10-11) early with the doubles point. NAU started with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles followed by a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point and the early lead.
The Bengals struggled to recover as the Lumberjacks rattled off three-straight singles wins to take the match 4-0. All singles matches finished in two sets.
"We will learn from this loss and continue to improve every day," Maloney said. "We know what it takes to be the top in the conference. This was such an incredible season with a great group of players."
Idaho State ends the year with its most successful season since 2004; every player is set to return for the Bengals next season.
