MISSOULA, Mont. – The Idaho State men's tennis team fell at Montana 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the PEAK Racquet Club in Missoula, Mont.
"Today was a true battle against a very strong Montana team," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "Despite the loss, our team performed at an extremely high level and put everything on the line in one of the most competitive conference matches of the year."
Idaho State (10-8, 5-4 BSC) fell behind early as Montana (10-7, 5-3, BSC) swept the Bengals in doubles play, winning 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and 6-2 at No. 1 doubles to take the doubles point and the early lead.
ISU responded early as
Sebastian Edin claimed a win by retirement at No. 1 singles to even the score at 1-1. But the Griz would not be deterred as they took the next five singles matches to win the match 6-1. The Bengals forced three sets at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles along with an additional match between
Haseeb Khan and Ludvig Hallgren.
"We came out strong and pushed Montana to the limit despite the final score," Rodel said. "We took five of six matches to three sets…we will regroup now and be ready for our final two regular-season matches."
