Balancing all that my life has to offer can be difficult at times but I have found that the reward far outweighs the struggle.
It has been a challenge because I have my time and attention pulling me in many different directions; some of which include academics, football, job, religion, husband, and most recently father! A typical day for me is starting out at football practice, bright and early, then going to work and then going back to football meetings and film afterwards; buying groceries, taking care of the finances, cleaning the home, and spending time with my wife and baby all has to fit somewhere in between there. We haven't even begun the semester yet, so I am trying to wrap my brain around classes, study hall, and homework fitting in somewhere.
At times it can be pretty exhausting and when you come home after a long day all you want to do is sleep yourself, you have to rock your baby to sleep first, or any number of things that babies will throw at you, most of which would probably not be appropriate to mention. Luckily, my wife and I say to each other "teamwork makes the dream work"… is a rock-star mom who takes care of our son most of the time but I relish all the time I can get with him because he is already growing up so fast.
Its busy, but it's all of my dreams coming to fruition. I feel very blessed. I am grateful for the opportunity I have to play football at the collegiate level, that has always been a dream of mine, for my education, for the employment opportunities I have, and most especially for my FAMILY. They are everything to me. All that I have on my plate seems a small price to pay for all I have been given.
Nothing can compare to the love and happiness I found when I became a Father. It really makes you think about life in a different way. It has given me a greater determination to fulfill my goals and make a good life for my son. I want him to have all the opportunities that have been afforded to me and more. Just makes you think about setting the example for the next generation. I just love the little guy more than words can say, I would do anything for him.
One of the team mottos this season is, "DIG DEEP," and it means exactly that. You push beyond what you think your limit is. I guess you could say that's helped me realize that I can do hard things. I don't need to dwell on how much I am juggling right now. Instead, I just focus on prioritizing, putting my head down, and getting my work done. This perspective gives me a sense of accomplishment and helps me find success in life. I have found that we are capable of more than we give ourselves credit for.
