Men's Tennis Concludes Play in Ogden, Utah

OGDEN, Utah – Francis Filipovich led the Bengals in singles play at the Weber State Invitational this weekend with a ninth-place finish in the B flight Sunday night. Filipovich defeated WSU's Bo-Han Li 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 in comeback effort.

Gary Rendek and Lukas Ridemar paired up in doubles and were able to secure the third-place finish after advancing to the semi-finals.

Friday
The Bengals played their best tennis on Friday with Fynn Lohse, Rendek, Ridemar and Filipovich all collecting wins.

Filipovich swiftly defeated Air Force's Alex Krawietz in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Rendek was challenged by Montana's Oisin Shaffrey in the first, but won 6-4 before handing his Big Sky opponent a 6-2 loss to take the match.

Lohse dropped his first set against Montana State's Manuel Monterio 2-6 before forcing a third set with a 7-6 win in the second. The third set went to a tiebreak once again with the freshman emerging victorious 7-6.

Rendek and Ridemar also won in doubles play with an 8-6 defeat of Montana's Canellopoulous and Shaffrey.

Saturday
Idaho State played two doubles matches and seven singles contests on Saturday.

Filipovich and Ridemar both won their first matches of the day in straight sets. Filipovich cruised to a 6-1 win in the first set and battled his way to a 7-5 win over Montana's Pontus Hallgren.

Ridemar narrowly defeated Mack Galvin 7-6 in the first set and concluded the match with a 6-3 win in the second. Rendek also won a match by injury on the second day of play.

In doubles, Filipovich and Lohse shared the court in a marginal defeat of Southern Utah's Erro and Cope (8-7).

Sunday
Rendek and Ridemar were able to finish third in the A draw of doubles after Montana withdrew due to injury. Filipovich was the only ISU player to compete in singles and secured ninth-place with his victory over Weber State.
