Boise, Idaho – Chidi Udengwu made two free throws in the final second of the game to lift Idaho State (1-1) past Boise State (0-1) Saturday night. The Bengals took down the Broncos 72-70 in front of 5,001 fans at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise.
After Boise State missed a shot, the Bengals collected the rebound and held the ball for the final shot of regulation. With just a few ticks left on the clock, Brandon Boyd stepped inside the arc and took the shot. The ball came off the front of the rim, but during the play Udengwu was fouled underneath the net with 0.6 seconds left on the clock to set up the game-winning free throws.
Four Bengals scored double digit points during the win. Chier Maker and Jared Stutzman led the Bengals in scoring with 16 points each and both shot 4-8 from behind the 3-point arc. Stutzman also played a team-high 37 minutes and added five rebounds and two assists. Maker led the team in rebounding with six boards.
Boyd had 14 points while shooting 4-16 from the field and 2-5 from behind the 3-point line. He added three rebounds and a trio of assists with 36 minutes of playing time. Udengwu finished with five points and gathered four rebounds in just 13 minutes of play.
Balint Mocsan accounted for 12 of the Bengals' 72 points, shooting 3-5 from the field, and 1-2 behind the 3-point line with four assists.
In the second period, the Broncos led the Bengals by as many 18 points before the Bengals mounted their comeback.
As a team, ISU shot 37.9 percent from the field and 48 percent from deep as they connected on 12 three pointers. The Bengals shot 16-19 from the free-throw line for an 84.2 percent conversion rate.
Boise State connected on 25 shots from the field for a 40 percent field goal percentage. They shot 32 percent and were 8-25 from the three-point line. The Broncos left some points on the table from the charity stripe, making just eight of 14 attempts (52 percent).
