POCATELLO, Idaho- Prior to the start of the 2018 season the Idaho State football team was picked 12
th by the coaches and 10
th by the media. After a three-way tie for first place with Weber State, Eastern Washington and UC Davis, the Bengals proved doubters wrong and finished fourth with a 5-3 Big Sky Conference record and a 6-5 overall mark after a 26-13 loss to No. 3 Weber State on Saturday afternoon in Holt Arena.
A crowd of 10,077 was in attendance against the nationally ranked Wildcats. This season four of the five home games had crowds of better than 8,000.
Weber State had 359 yards of total offense while the Bengals had 322.
In his final game,
Tanner Gueller threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
Mitch Gueller had 124 yards receiving on nine receptions and one touchdown.
Ty Flanagan had 62 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Christian Holland led the defense with nine tackles and one forced fumble.
Kainoa Fuiava had eight tackles.
Weber State led 16-0 at halftime. The Bengals opened the third quarter with a 48-yard touchdown reception by
Mitch Gueller with 11:20 left in the third to make it 16-6.
Weber State ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown but ISU countered with a touchdown to make it 23-13 when Flanagan scored on a 28-yard reception from
Tanner Gueller.
The Wildcats added a field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 26-13.
Notes
- This is only the fifth time since 2000 that an ISU football team has finished with a .500 record or better. The 2000 team was 6-5, the 2002 team was 8-3, the 2003 team was 8-4, the 2014 team was 8-4 and the 2018 team was 6-5. All five of these teams also finished .500 or better in conference. The 2000 team was 4-4 in league, the 2002 team was 5-2, the 2003 team was 4-3, the 2014 team was 6-2 and the 2018 team was 5-3.

Tanner Gueller finished his career ranked first in the ISU record book for most passing touchdowns with 74.

Tanner Gueller finished his career ranked second in the ISU record books for passing attempts (1,341), completions (708) and passing yards (9,061).

Mitch Gueller and
Michael Dean are both tied for seventh in the ISU career record book for receiving touchdowns with 20.

Mitch Gueller now has 2,639 receiving yards for his career. That ranks him third all-time. He only needs 225 yards to break
Rodrick Rumbles record of 2,863.

Tanner Gueller threw 27 touchdown passes this year, ranking him third in the Idaho State single-season record book.

Mitch Gueller had 1,259 receiving yards this year, the third best single-season mark in program history.

Campbell Sheidow's 46 made extra points is the third most in a season for a Bengal kicker.
