Women's Basketball Signs Diaba Konate

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball has announced the signing of Diaba Konate for the 2018-19 season. The freshman will join the Bengals next week after journeying to Pocatello from her hometown of Paris, France.

"Diaba is an exceptionally athletic guard who has extensive experience playing with the French National Team," said Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. "She has been very successful against some of the best players in the world in her age group. She will bring another level of athleticism, defense and ball handling to our guard positions."

In September, Konate won a silver medal with the French National Team at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3-on-3 2018 U18 Europe Cup in Debrecen, Hungary and was named to the all-tournament team. A month later, she won another silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Konate was also a member of the 5-on-5 U16 French National Team.

In high school, she played club basketball for two organizations. In 2017, she joined Cavigal Nice Basket 06 and led the team to a third-place finish in the league championship. She also played for the Toulouse Metropole Basket club team at Bellevue High School for a year.

Konate is a leader on her teams and in her community. She has earned the Regional Leadership in Youth Sports and Social Cohesion Award, the Regional Olympic and Sport Committee Award and the National School Sport Union Award.

Konate will begin her education at Idaho State University this spring and plans to major in accounting.
