VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Idaho State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Portland State on Saturday afternoon at the Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash.
Portland State (4-2, 1-0 BSC) picked up the doubles point after winning a tie-break at the No. 2 doubles position. PSU won at No. 1 doubles while Idaho State (3-3, 1-1 BSC) won at No. 3 doubles as
Keegan Sullivan and
Francis Filipovich defeated Nathan Boniel and Gabe Souza 7-5. At No. 2 doubles,
Adam Hornby and
William Edin battled to force a tie break, but the Vikings won the tie break for the 7-6 (7-4) win and the doubles point.
"The doubles point came down to a tie break," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "Portland State played well and capitalized on the doubles point, seizing its home court opportunity."
The Bengals battled the Vikings in singles play, but dropped four-of-six matches.
Peter Trhac picked up a win at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tommy Edwards while Adam Horby defeated Bukhari Majeed at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
"I was impressed by PSU, and I have challenged our team to make the necessary changes, look at taking more risk when they play and find ways to create opportunities."
Idaho State continues play on the road Sunday, Feb. 11 at Seattle. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. MST.
