POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State tennis team fell 6-1 to visiting Boise State Friday afternoon at the Reed Gym Tennis Courts.
"Doubles was the highlight today," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We were overpowered in singles play in several matches. We still need to play cleaner and reduce unforced errors. This was good practice to get ready for conference play."
In doubles play, Idaho State (1-5) battled Boise State (3-3) before the Broncos earned the doubles point. BSU defeated ISU's
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Megan Poe 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, and ISU's
Melissa Coburn and
Madison Fenske battled at No. 3 doubles before falling 7-5.
Huibre-Mare Botes and
Louise-Mare Botes battled at No. 1 doubles to force a tiebreaker but fell 7-6(7-4).
In singles play, Boise State claimed the win at the No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 positions, but
Louise-Mare Botes picked up ISU's lone singles win at No. 3 singles. She defeated BSU's Wiktoria Nosek in a three-set fight, 6-4, 6-7(5-7), 10-8 to remain undefeated on the season at No. 3 singles.
Idaho State continues play Feb. 24 at Portland State at 12:30 p.m. MST.
