POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team lost 4-2 to UTEP and 18-0 to New Mexico State in five innings in the first day of a tournament hosted by UTEP in El Paso, Texas.
Emma Bordenkecher led Idaho State by going 3-5 with a triple and two RBIs. The Bengals were held to eight hits in the two games.
Ashlyn Ames suffered the loss against UTEP. She tossed six innings, allowed nine hits, four runs, struck out six, walked two and allowed four runs.
Mariah Mulcahy took the loss against New Mexico State. She went three innings and allowed 12 hits and 12 runs while
Danni Ryan pitched the final two innings, allowing seven hits, six runs and three walks.
Against New Mexico State, the Bengals gave up five runs in the first inning, seven in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth inning. ISU gave up 19 hits and had two errors.
ISU had only two hits, one from Ames and
Aubrey Creekmore.
Against, UTEP, ISU had six hits but had three errors in the field while the Miners scored their four runs on nine hits and two errors.
Bordenkecher was 3-3 with two RBIs in the game.
UTEP led 2-0 after the first inning. ISU tied the game at two in the top of the third inning.

Haley Harrison was hit by a pitch that set up Bordenkecher's triple to right-center.
The Miners countered in the bottom of the third with two runs to take the 4-2 lead. The Bengals committed two errors in the field in the inning.
Tourney play in El Paso continue Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. contest against New Mexico State and a 2:30 p.m. game against UTEP. ISU concludes play on Sunday, Feb. 25 with a 9 a.m. game vs. New Mexico State.
