Softball Drops Games to UTEP and New Mexico State

 
POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team lost 8-3 to New Mexico State and 9-0 in five innings to UTEP on the second day of a tournament hosted by UTEP in El Paso, Texas.

In the first game, ISU out hit the Aggies 8-7 and did not commit an error. New Mexico State committed one error in the field.

Makenzie VanSickle was 3-3 to lead the ISU offense. Kelsey Breer was 2-4 and scored one run. Haley Harrison had one hit, one RBI and scored one run. Ashlyn Ames had one hit and one RBI and Cassidy FitzGerald had one hit.

Danni Ryan went the distance, tossing six innings, allowing seven hits, eight runs, five walks and striking out five.

The Aggies led 5-0 after two innings and maintained the lead until ISU scored two in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Breer doubled to center field and went to third on a passed ball. She later scored on an error. Ames drove in Harrison with a two-out single to give ISU their second run of the inning.

New Mexico State scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. ISU scored one run in the top of the seventh. FitzGerald led off with a double to left field. Harrison drove in the only run of the inning on a fielder's choice.

The Bengals managed only four hits against UTEP and committed two errors in the field. Mariah Mulcahy  took the loss in the circle, allowing eight hits, nine runs (seven earned), one walk and two strike outs.

Harrison had two of the four hits for the Bengals. VanSickle and Tago each had one hit.

ISU concludes play in El Paso on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. vs. New Mexico State.
