POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team closed out play in El Paso, Texas with an 8-4 loss to New Mexico State on Sunday morning on the campus of UTEP.
The Bengals scored their four runs on eight hits but committed four errors in the field.
Kelsey Breer and
Emma Bordenkecher both went 2-4 to lead the way.
Ashlyn Ames took the loss in the circle. She pitched a complete game, allowing eight runs, seven earned, while striking out two and walking one.
"We created more opportunities to score today," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "We battled better and found some real positives to build on."
Idaho State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the second inning. In the first inning, Bordenkecher connected on a two-out single to center field. Ames followed with a single and VanSickle drove in Bordenkecher on a single to right.
In the second inning,
Frankie Tago started the scoring with a one-out single to left.
Shayna Dahlen then reached on an Aggie error. Later in the inning with two outs, Harrison had an infield RBI single and Dahlen would steal home for the second run.
New Mexico State scored three runs in the third and one in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.
The Bengals tied the game at four when Breer led off with a double to right field and she later scored on an RBI single from Bordenkecher.
The Aggies would add three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to earn the victory.
Idaho State is back in action March 9-11 in a tournament at Colorado State. ISU plays UVU twice, Colorado State twice and St. Johns once.
