POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team lost 6-3 to Utah Valley University and 11-0 to St. Johns in the first day of the Colorado State Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Bengals had eight hits on the day as
Makenzie VanSickle was 2-4 and
Ashlyn Ames had two hits, one being a homer.
Ames took the loss against UVU. She pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs, three walks and three strike outs.
Mariah Mulcahy took the loss against St. Johns as she went the distance, allowing 13 hits, 11 runs (10 earned), four walks and four strikeouts.
Against UVU, Ames was 1-2 with two RBIs and one run scored. ISU was held to only four hits.
Kelsey Breer, VanSickle and
Cassidy FitzGerald had the other three hits.
The game was 2-2 after one inning and 3-3 after four innings before the Wolverines scored three runs in the sixth inning to earn the win.
In the first inning Ames hit a two-run homer and in the fourth inning
Ellery Jones, who was pinch running for Ames, would steal home for the Bengals third run of the game.
Against St. Johns, ISU had four hits and committed six errors. St. Johns scored its 11 runs on 13 hits. The Bengals trailed 4-0 after two innings and 6-0 after six. St. Johns then scored five runs in the seventh to earn the 11-0 win.
The Bengals play UVU and Colorado State on Saturday, March 10. The UVU game begins at 11:15 while first pitch against Colorado State starts at 3:45.
