Softball Beats Purdue; Falls to Texas Tech

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team defeated Purdue 6-1 and fell to Texas Tech 5-1 on Saturday afternoon on the campus of UC Riverside.

The Bengals had 11 hits on the day. Aubrey Creekmore led the attack by going 3-6 with a triple and two runs scored. Shayna Dahlen had two hits, one being a homer and Frankie Tago had two hits, one being a homer and three RBIs.

Danni Ryan earned the win against Purdue. She went three innings on the day, allowed three hits and one run while striking out two. Mariah Mulcahy took the loss against Texas Tech. She tossed five innings, allowing eight hits, five runs while walking one and striking out one.

"We played the best back-to-back games of the season so far," Idaho State coach Candi Letts said. "Texas Tech has beat a couple of Top 20 teams this season. We had two mental mistakes that opened the game up for the Red Raiders. We have opportunities in front of us tomorrow."

In the win over Purdue, Dahlen had two hits and one RBI. Tago's only hit was a three-run homer. Ryan started the game and went two innings before Ashlyn Ames pitched the final five innings and did not allow a run while only giving up four hits.

Idaho State led 3-0 after two innings. The first run came in the first inning when Ames doubled home Makenzie VanSickle on a double to right-center. ISU scored two runs with two outs in the second inning. Dahlen had a solo-two-out homer and Genesis Zamora then walked and VanSickle doubled home Zamora for the final run.

Purdue scored its only run of the game in the third inning and the Bengals added three runs in the sixth on Tago's three-run blast.

In the loss to Texas Tech the game was scoreless through three innings. The Red Raiders then took a 1-0 lead in bottom of the fourth inning. ISU tied it at one in the top of the fifth. Creekmore led off with a triple to right field and Cassidy FitzGerald singled her home on a base hit up the middle.

Texas Tech then scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and three in the sixth to take the 5-1 lead.

Idaho State had five hits in the game while Texas Tech had eight.

Idaho State closes the tournament playing Purdue on Sunday at 10 a.m. and UC Riverside at 3 p.m.
