GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Idaho State women's tennis team fell 4-3 at North Dakota Friday morning at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
"We struggled today with consistency," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We had our chances, but we made poor shot selections and had too many unforced errors. We need to get back to the basics of clean tennis."
Idaho State (8-12, 5-5 BSC) lost the doubles point to North Dakota (7-12, 4-7 BSC) as the Fighting Hawks won at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions to seal the doubles point early. ISU's
Madison Fenske and
Melissa Coburn gave the Bengals their lone doubles win with a 6-4 win over Masha Lobanova and Zahra Finnigan at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, ISU won three matches, but it was not enough for the win.
Huibre-Mare Botes defeated UND's Elly Hartnett 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles while
Louise-Mare Botes picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win over Preethi Kasilingam at No. 3 singles. Andrea Walker wrapped up singles play for the Bengals with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Revenig at No. 6 singles. North Dakota collected wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to seal the 4-3 win.
Idaho State closes the regular-season Saturday, April 21 against Northern Colorado. The first serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Greeley, Colo.
