POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team had 22 hits and earned a split over Northern Colorado, winning 9-4 in game 2 and losing 13-8 in game 1.
Five Idaho State players had three hits on the day. 
Frankie Tago had three hits, four RBIs and scored two runs while 
Kelsey Breer had three hits, four RBIs, one homer and one double. 
Emma Bordenkecher had three hits and three RBIs. While 
Genesis Zamora and 
Shayna Dahlen had three hits.
Mariah Mulcahy earned the game 2 win by tossing the complete game, scattering six hits, four runs, five walks and five strikeouts.
"She did a great job against a very aggressive swinging team," Idaho State coach 
Candi Letts said. "Our defense made a couple of nice plays to get us out of an inning. But Mariah fought the whole game and stayed focus. She used her defense to our advantage."
Ashlyn Ames took the loss in the first game. She allowed 15 hits, seven walks and five strikeouts.
"We battled hard in the second game," Letts said. "In the first game we answered back and they went ahead then we didn't answer back. That is the difference in the game. In the second game we stuck to the plan, worked hard and did all the things we are capable of doing. When we do those kind of things we can come out on top a lot more than what we have been.
In game 1, Northern Colorado led 2-0 after two innings. The Bengals had a six run third inning to take a 6-2 lead. During the inning ISU scored its six runs on five hits. Bordenkecher had a two RBI double. Ames, Dahlen and Tago also had RBIs during the inning.
Idaho State maintained the 6-2 lead through four innings before Northern Colorado scored seven runs in the fifth inning, two in the sixth and two in the seventh inning. The Bengals scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Idaho State had 11 hits and one error in the game while Northern Colorado had 15 hits and two errors.
Bordenkecher, Tago and Breer all had two hits in the game.
In game 2, ISU jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning. 
Aubrey Creekmore led off with a walk and she later scored on an RBI double by Bordenkecher.
The Bears tied the game at one in the top of the third inning but the Bengals countered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Zamora led off with a single up the middle and later advanced to second on a passed ball. Creekmore then walked and then with one out Ames singled to center field, scoring Zamora.
With two outs Tago had an RBI single down the left side for another run and then Breer homered to left-center give ISU a 6-1 lead.
The Bengals added two runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth. 
Danni Ryan's first career-hit in the sixth inning was a home run to left field. Northern Colorado scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Dahlen and Zamora were both 2-3 while Breer was 1-3 with three RBIs.
The three-game series concludes Saturday at 1 p.m. at Miller Ranch Stadium.
