SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State (3-7-2, 2-1 BSC) had a big second half to defeat Idaho State (2-8, 1-2 BSC) 3-0 at Hornet Field Friday night. The Hornets secured three goals within a 16-minute span for the victory.
"We just didn't finish our chances in the first half, and that cost us dearly," said Head Coach
Allison Gibson. "We had SAC on their heels, but that is the crucial time to put the game away and we didn't."
The Bengals had an uncharacteristic night on offense with just eight shots and one shot on goal. The team has failed to record 10 or more shots just twice in the past eight games.
Â
Makena Bambei was the only Bengal with multiple shots on the night with three.
Meaghan Bare,
Natasha Camacho-Bier,
Corinne Sanderson,
Delaney Johnston and
Brooke Kortekaas each had one shot. Kortekaas registered ISU's only shot on goal.Â
Laule'a Akana-Phillips posted another shutout half in the first period of play and recorded three saves on the night.
Katie Hogarth entered the game in the second half, but did not face any shots.Â
"We just weren't able to finish and it frustrated us instead of motivating us," Gibson said.Â
ISU trailed Sacramento State by just three shots, but the Hornets were able to put six on goal. Idaho State had three saves to Sacramento State's one and earned three more corner kicks with six overall.Â
The first half of play was scoreless with each team collecting five shots. Â
The Hornets put the first goal on the board in the 53rd minute of play. Skylar Littlefield collected her third goal of the season in the 68th minute and Tiffany Miras placed the finishing touch on the game just one minute and 19 seconds later.Â
Sacramento State had six shots in comparison to Idaho State's three shots in the second half. Neither team could get a shot off in the final nine minutes of play.
The Bengals travel to Portland, Ore. to face the Vikings Sunday afternoon.
"It's important that we come out and play our game and put away our chances," Gibson said.
