PORTLAND, Ore. – Idaho State (2-9, 1-3 BSC) played a solid 45 minutes to start the game, but gave up three goals in the second half Sunday afternoon.
Delaney Johnston was the lone scorer for the Bengals as they lost 3-1 to Portland State (3-8, 1-3 BSC) on the road.
Johnston regained the team lead for goals and points after netting the first penalty kick attempt of the season in the final minute of play. The freshman forward now has three goals on the year and six points. She beat the Portland State goalie to the bottom left corner with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
Makena Bambei led the team in shots with three and shots on goal with two.
Rachel Brownell collected two shots with one on goal.

Karlin Wurlitzer,
Meaghan Bare and
Delaney Johnston all shot once. All their shots were on goal except for Wurlitzer's attempt. Bambei, Smith, Wurlitzer and
Katie Hogarth each played 90 minutes.
Hogarth played her first complete game of the season and made one save in the first and two in the second. She allowed three goals on the day.
ISU outshot PSU 6-4 in the first with four shots on goal to the Vikings' two. Idaho State also held the advantage in corner kicks with three.
The Vikings generated more opportunities in the second half and finished the game with 15 shots to ISU's 10. The Bengals had more shots on goal (7-6) and corner kicks (5-4) with just one offside call compared to PSU's five. The game was extremely physical with the teams combining for 31 fouls and six yellow cards.
The game was scoreless for the first half and well into the second. Idaho State committed a foul in the 67th minute, giving Portland State a free kick near the top of the 18-yard box. The first player faked the kick before Tasi Poore buried a blistering shot in the top left corner of the goal.
Portland State tacked on another goal within 10 minutes from the foot of Rillee Castilla. Portland State's Jade Rafallo made the game 3-0 before Johnston put Idaho State on the board in the closing minute.
Idaho State returns to Davis Field next week to host Montana and Northern Colorado on Friday and Sunday.
