POCATELLO, Idaho – Fynn Lohse has been named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by conference officials this afternoon. Lohse, a freshman, earned the award by sweeping Utah State's Rithvik Bollipalli in the season opener.
Idaho State faced a talented Utah State squad coming off its second-consecutive Mountain West Championship. The Aggies also finished 2018 ranked No. 50 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings.
Despite several close battles, wins were tough to come by for ISU except for Lohse's victory to close the competition. With the Aggies looking to sweep the Bengals at home, all eyes were upon the rookie from Kaltenkirchen, Germany.
Lohse made quick work of his opponent, earning a 6-3, 6-3 victory to conclude play in Logan, Utah. Earlier, he paired with senior
Francis Filipovich for the closest doubles match of the day. The duo battled hard before falling 6-4.
This is the first time an Idaho State men's tennis player has earned the award since 2017 when senior Sebastian Edin claimed the honor.
The ISU men's tennis team has several weeks to prepare for its next two matches against Lewis and Clark State College and Boise State on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3.
