POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team hit 15 3-pointers en route to an 88-68 win over Southern Utah on Thursday night in Holt Arena. The Bengals improved to 6-6 and 2-1 in Big Sky Conference play while SUU dropped to 5-7 and 0-3 in league.
Brandon Boyd score a game-high 20 points. He had six rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes of play.
Balint Mocsan had 15 points, three steals and one block while making three of six 3-pointers.
Gary Chivichyan had 14 points off the bench and
Chier Maker scored 12 points and had two blocks.
Idaho State shot 45.6 percent from the field and held SUU to 35.7 percent. The T-Birds were 2-17 from the three-point line while the Bengals were 15-33.
Southern Utah's only lead of the game was 3-0 in the first minute. ISU then jumped out to a 19-7 lead seven minutes in after two 3-pointers by Boyd, one by Maker and one by Chivichyan.
The Bengals built a 31-16 lead with 10:26 left until halftime after another 3-pointer by Chivichyan. Idaho State's biggest lead in the first half was the halftime score of 49-33.
Southern Utah got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way. Idaho State's biggest lead of the game was 25 at 64-39 following a free throw by
Kelvin Jones.
Idaho State is back in action Saturday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. in Holt Arena vs. Northern Arizona. Â
