POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's basketball team lost 81-69 to Northern Arizona on Saturday night in Holt Arena. Idaho State fell to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play while NAU improved to 4-10 with a 2-2 mark in Big Sky play.
Idaho State shot 36.5 percent from the field (23-63) and NAU shot 56.3 percent (27-48). Idaho State was out rebounded 31-28 and made 12 3-pointers on 37 attempts while NAU was 8-16 from the three-point line.
The Lumberjacks were 19-for-20 from the free throw line while Idaho State was 11-14.
Balint Mocsan led the Bengals with a career-high 25 points on a career-best seven 3's. Chier Maker had 10 points and five rebounds. Alonzo Walker had seven rebounds.
NAU led the entire game and shot 60 percent in the first half. Trailing 42-30 at halftime, the Bengals opened the second half on an 11-4 run to cut their deficit to 46-41 with 14:58 left in the game following a Gary Chivichyan 3-pointer.
ISU would get no closer the rest of way as NAU extended its lead to as many as 14 points in the final minutes of the game.
Luke Avdalovic led the Lumberjacks with 17 points followed by Ted McCree with 16. In all, NAU had five players score in double figures.
The Bengals resume conference play January 12 at Sacramento State. The two teams tip at 3 p.m. (MT).
