Bengals Fall to Idaho

 
MOSCOW, Idaho- The Idaho State football team lost 45-21 to Idaho on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 10,361 at the Kibbie Dome.

Idaho had 404 yards of total offense but turned the ball over four times, resulting in four Idaho touchdowns.

Matt Struck threw for 316 yards. He was 27-52 with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Malaki Rango carried the ball nine times for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Mitch Gueller had a career-high 11 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown.

Oshea Trujillo led the defense with 10 tackles and Christian McFarland had eight.

Idaho State had 475 total yards. The Vandals had 318 through the air and 157 on the ground. 

Idaho State fell behind 24-0 early in the second quarter. The Bengals got on the scoreboard when Malaki Rango scored on a four-yard with 5:28 left in the first half. Idaho State trailed 24-7 at halftime.

The Bengals cut their deficit to 10 twice in the third quarter but that would get no closer. Austin Campbell scored on an 11-yard reception from Struck with 12:58 left in the third quarter to cut the Idaho lead to 24-14.

Idaho followed with a touchdown to extend its lead to 31-14 but the Bengals came back to cut the Idaho lead to 31-21 after Gueller caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Struck with 8:49 to play in the third quarter.

Idaho State then turned the ball over twice, resulting in two Vandal touchdowns to make the score 45-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Idaho State returns to the field on Oct. 26 for 2 p.m. contest at Southern Utah.
 
Notes
- Mitch Gueller had a career-high 11 receptions.  
- Mitch Gueller surpassed 3,000 career receiving yards. He is one of only nine Big Sky receivers to accomplish this. He now has 3,104 receiving yards.
- Mitch Gueller has 24 career receiving touchdowns, tied with Michael Dean for sixth in the Idaho State career record book.
