POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State volleyball team defeated Portland State in five sets on Thursday night in Portland, Oregon.
The Bengals jumped ahead in the first set with a 25-19 victory. ISU attacked for a .276 percentage and out-blocked the Vikings 3-1.
Raegan Steiner led the team hitting an impressive .500 with five kills. ISU had the advantage at 5-4 and took the lead the rest of the way, leading PSU by as many as seven points during the set.
Idaho State kept the lead through the entire second set and finished in a 25-16 set victory. ISU was ahead 14-13 before going on a eight-point rally to give them a 21-13 advantage. The Bengals went on to lead the Vikings by as many as ten points at 24-14 and finished the set with a .440 hitting percentage.Â
The Vikings took the third and fourth sets to tie the match 2-2. The third set finished in a 25-12 score with the fourth ending in a close 25-23 finish. ISU fought hard in the fourth, averaging a .300 hitting percentage and tying the set late in the match, 20-20.
The fifth and final set went in favor of ISU, 15-12, to give them a 3-2 victory over Portland State. Idaho State defeated Portland State earlier this season in a 3-2 victory on Oct. 12 in Reed Gym.
The Orange and Black averaged a .227 hitting percentage, 69 digs, nine blocks, and 12 service aces.
Taylor Meeks led the Bengals with 17 kills, a .630 hitting percentage, and five blocks.
Raegan Steiner finished with 12 kills followed by
Brooke Pehrson with 10 kills, four blocks, and three service aces.
Nikole Cook led the team in digs with 17 with
Haylie Keck following closely with 16. Keck led the team in service aces with four.
