PROVO, Utah- The Idaho State football team lost 42-10 to BYU on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 57,379 at Lavell Edwards Stadium.
The Bengals had 271 yards of total offense and held BYU to 449 yards. The 449 yards is the fewest yards the Bengal defense has given up against an FBS team since allowing 423 in the win over Nevada in 2017.
Idaho State rushed for 157 yards thanks to a season and career-high 142 from
Malakai Rango. Rango had 24 carries and scored the Bengals only touchdown on a 54-yard run in the third quarter.
Matt Struck was 11-23 for 114 yards and two interceptions.
Michael Dean Caught five passes for 78 yards.
Adkin Aguirre led the defense with a career-high 16 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Darian Green had nine tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss.
Kody Graves had five tackles and an interception.
BYU led 7-0 after the first quarter and 14-0 with 12:59 left in the second quarter.
Kevin Ryan kicked a 27-yard field goal with 9:46 left in the quarter to make the score 14-3. That scoring drive was a nine play, 66 yard drive that took 3:13. The scoring drive was highlighted by a 40-yard reception by Dean.
BYU scored two touchdowns in the final 6:45 of the first half to lead 28-3 at halftime.
BYU built a 42-3 lead with 8:14 left in the third quarter. The Bengals scored a touchdown in the third quarter when Rango scored on a 54-yard run with 7:37 left.
Idaho State closes out the season on Saturday, November 23 at Weber State. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
