POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State women's basketball team defeated Eastern Washington, 67-47, in its second conference game on Monday night in Cheney, Wash.
The Bengals took an early 5-4 lead and didn't look back, taking the lead through the rest of the game.
Idaho State out-shot EWU 50 percent to 30 percent from field-goal range and 36 percent to 25 percent from three. ISU showcased a team effort victory with 10 Bengals putting points on the board.
Delaney Moore led with a season-high 14 points and a season-tying six boards that contributed to 41 ISU rebounds.
Callie Bourne led the team with eight boards.Â
"We came out really ready," said Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski. "We had a great first quarter and a great first half where we defended really well and hit a few shots. We were able to pace ourselves the rest of the way."
Coming off the bench, ISU out-scored EWU 29-11.
Ellie Smith recorded a career-high four steals while adding seven points and three boards.
Diaba Konate grabbed a career-high seven boards and career-high five assists.
The Eagles went up 4-0 in the first quarter before the Bengals answered back ending the first half in a 22-8 lead. The quarter was highlighted by four ISU three-pointers from four different Bengals: Konate,
Dora Goles,
Carsyn Boswell, and
Montana Oltrogge. Â
Idaho State finished the first half leading EWU, 37-16. ISU out-shot Eastern Washington 54 percent to 24 percent from the floor and 40 percent to 14 percent from beyond the three-point arc in the half. The Bengals also out-rebounded the Eagles 26-11, led by
Callie Bourne with seven boards and Goles and Moore recording six. Moore also led the Bengals in the half hitting a season-high eight points.
The third quarter ended in a 52-31 ISU lead after the Bengals had a game-high 27-point lead twice at 43-16 and 45-18. Idaho State would hit another game-high 27-point lead in the fourth quarter at 67-40 before the Eagles would go on a 6-0 run to end the game in a 20 point loss, 67-47. EWU scored seven points off of free-throws in the fourth and shot a game-high 36 percent from the floor.Â
"I'm glad that the post players collectively did a great job tonight," Sobolewski said. "Delaney had a great game. Ellie hit her shots and even hit a nice mid-range shot where she didn't hesitate and just knocked it down. They played really well."
The Bengals host Sacramento State on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. (MST) in Reed Gym.Â
