POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State women's basketball team defeated Sacramento State 80-62 on Saturday afternoon in Reed Gym.
The victory marks the program's 600th win.
Idaho State shot 45 percent from field-goal range and 46 percent from three, hitting a season-high 12 3's highlighted by
Dora Goles with a career-tying five 3s,
Nuria Barrientos with a career-high two 3s, and
Tomekia Whitman,
Callie Bourne,
Diaba Konate,
Jordan Sweeney, and
Montana Oltrogge all adding one.
ISU held the Hornets to just 20 percent (7-32) from three and out-rebounded them 46-42, led by
Ellie Smith with a career-high eight boards. Smith also had four of the team's five blocks. The Bengals recorded 17 assists led by Konate who tossed a career-high six assists and Goles with a season-high tying five assists.
Goles led the Bengals with 17 points followed by Bourne with 11 and
Delaney Moore with 10. Barrientos recorded a career-tying eight points.
Bourne sparked the momentum for the Bengals, starting the game with a deep three and scoring their first five points. The Bengals would carry that momentum to finish the quarter leading 23-16 after shooting a game-high 53 percent from the field in the quarter.
Goles scored 12 of ISU's 28 points in the second quarter going a perfect 4-4 from three.
The Bengals ended the half in a 18-point lead, 51-33. ISU shot 51 percent (20-39) from the field and 54 percent (7-13) from beyond the three-point arc in the half while scoring 15 points off of 10 Hornet turnovers. Idaho State out-rebounded Sac State 24-17 with 10 coming from offensive boards. Goles led the Orange and Black with 17 points in the half with Konate recording a career-high five assists, four points, and two steals.
Idaho State was held to just 12 points in the third while holding Sac State to 10.
Nuria Barrientos sunk her first three of the season with 26 seconds left in the quarter to allow the Bengals to finish with the quarter in a 20-point lead, 63-43. ISU held Sac State to just 15 percent (3-20) from field goal range and 0-9 from three in the quarter.
ISU's biggest lead of the game was 23 points at 58-35, with 7:26 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The quarter was led by Barrientos with five points after scoring her second 3 of the afternoon.
Idaho State is back on the road Jan. 9 in Cedar City, Utah to take on Southern Utah at 6:30 p.m. (MST). The game will feature Live Stats, Video, and Audio brought to you by
