Mark Liptak has covered Idaho State athletics since 1993 when he was sports director at KPVI-TV.  
 

As part of his current athletic duties, he is the play-by-play broadcaster for home Idaho State University volleyball and softball games. In the past he has also been a part of the football broadcasts both in the studio and in the booth.

But he is best known for his work with Idaho State women’s basketball. He’s been calling all their games on a regular basis since the start of the 2008-2009 season. During the mid-90s through the 2000 season, Liptak called a half dozen home games each year. In this current stretch he is closing in on 400 games called for women’s basketball. 
 

 

Originally from Chicago, Mark went to the University of Kentucky. He’s been in the sports media profession since 1978 having worked in television sports in three markets between 1978 and 1994. He’s also written for numerous newspapers in addition to his radio duties.

Liptak has covered a Super Bowl, the Independence Bowl, the Division I-AA (now FCS) championship game held in Holt Arena in Pocatello in 1987, two Kentucky Derby’s, an NCAA woman’s basketball Final Four and worked for CBS-TV during their coverage of the men’s NCAA basketball tournament’s opening rounds held in Boise in 2001. 

He is also a Chicago White Sox historian who currently writes for the web site South Side Sox and White Sox Interactive. He’s also provided historical stories and material to the White Sox organization itself.


He and his wife Zoe have been married for over 32 years. Their son, Mason, and his family live in Longview, Texas.
