POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team defeated UC Davis 3-2 and the second game of the day against Saint Mary's was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning due to darkness with the game tied at three at the UC Davis Invitational in Davis, Calif. Idaho State is 4-5 and UC Davis dropped to 10-3.
Against UC Davis, the Bengals scored all three runs in the fifth inning to earn the victory. Idaho State had six hits and played stellar defense in the field. UC Davis had seven hits and committed three errors.
Frankie Tago had two hits.
Cassidy FitzGerald and
Emma Bordenkecher had one hit and one hit RBI and
Amber Arreola had one hit and scored one run.
"We bounced back from an ugly defeat," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "It was a team victory for sure. Mariah pitch an excellent game and Autumn came in to help her get her first win of the season. Clutch hitting by

Emma Bordenkecher added the eventual game-winning hit. Everyone contributed to this big win over a very good team."
ISU trailed 1-0 through four innings. In the fifth inning, Idaho State scored its three runs on four hits while taking advantage of two UC Davis errors.
Tago led off with a single to center field and Arreola then singled to left. Later in the inning with two outs, FitzGerald singled in a pinch-hit situation and advanced to second on an error and third on another throwing error. FitzGerald's hit and the Aggies miscues scored
MaKenzie Van Sickle, who was pinch running for Tago, and Arreola.
Bordenkecher followed with an RBI single to right field for the third run of the inning.
Against Saint Mary's, Idaho State led 1-0 after the first inning thanks to a two-out RBI single by FitzGerald that scored Van Sickle, who reached base on a walk.
Saint Mary's then scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
Idaho State tied the game at three in the fifth inning. With one out, Van Sickle was hit by a pitch and Bordenkecher then doubled to right field. FitzGerald then singled to left field, driving in Van Sickle and Bordenkecher.
Idaho State resumes play against Saint Mary's before playing Seattle U on Sunday.
