Women's Tennis Splits Matches In California

Box Score POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team split its matches in California today with a 7-0 win over Irvine Valley College and a 6-1 loss to Claremont McKenna College.

"The Irvine match was good to get outside and acclimate to the altitude," said Head Coach Gretchen Maloney. "The girls played pretty solid. CMS was tough, but the girls fought hard and although we didn't win, we will improve from this loss. They were just a little more consistent than we were today."

The team had a dominant showing against Irvine Valley College this morning. The Bengals did not lose a set while dropping just 13 games in singles play.

Adriene Pavek and Andrea Wood put Idaho State up early with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. The Bengals sealed the doubles win with 6-3 wins at the No. 1 and 2 courts.

Madison Fenske had a spotless record in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win to open the competition. Wood and Pavek followed with straight-set wins of their own; both ISU players dropped just one game.

Angela Walker ceded a lone game in each set during a 6-1, 6-1 victory over IVC's Ashley Le. Louise-Mare Botes grinded out a 6-4 win in the first set before her opponent retired and Alexandra Arkhipov capped the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

Recapping Claremont
Megan Poe saved Idaho State from a shutout by winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to close the match. Melissa Coburn was the only other Bengal to take a set in a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) loss.

The Bengals are now 2-2 this spring. They face Chapman University at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
