POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team beat Stony Brook 10-8 and lost to Nebraska 5-0 on Friday in the second day of the Colorado State Classic.
"We bounced back and competed well against Stony Brook," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "We hit the ball well and kept the pressure on them. We fell short against Nebraska. We had opportunities to get on the board but we didn't execute. We played them well and these games will continue to help us prepare for each and every weekend."
In the win over Stony Brook the Bengals scored in every inning but the sixth. Idaho State had 12 hits, led by
Emma Bordenkecher going 3-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Cassidy FitzGerald was 2-3,
Amber Arreola 2-3 with two RBIs and one run scored and
Shayna Dahlen was 2-4 with one RBI. Seven different Bengals had hits.
Kelsea Sweeney earned her first win of the season. She pitched 4.1 innings, allowed nine hits, five runs and struck out three.
Autumn Pease tossed the final 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, three runs and striking out two.
Idaho State scored a run in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Arreola. Stony Brook scored two in the bottom of the first inning but the Bengals answered with three runs in the second.
With one out, Dahlen singled up the middle and then later with two outs
Courtney Wiley reached base on a Stony Brook miscue and
MaKenzie Van Sickle would walk to set up Bordenkecher's three-RBI double to left-center.
Stony Brook scored a run in the second and third innings but the Bengals would add two runs in the third and fourth innings and one in the fifth and seventh.

The Bengals fended off a late rally in the bottom of the seventh as Stony Brook scored three runs.
In the loss to Nebraska, Idaho State had four hits and committed one error. Nebraska had 10 hits and scored two runs in the second in the second inning, one the fourth and two in the sixth.
The Bengals final game of the Colorado State Classic against Stony Brook on March 2 has been canceled. Idaho State plays March 8-10 at the Washington Husky Classic.
The Bengals will play Seattle U, Northern Illinois, Ohio State and two games against Washington.
