POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team beat Northern Kentucky 2-1 and lost to UC Riverside 5-2 in the final day of the UC Riverside Tournament.
Idaho State had 11 hits on the day.
Aubrey Creekmore was 3-5 with an RBI and
Emma Bordenkecher was 2-5 with two homers and two RBIs.
Kelsea Sweeney earned the win against Northern Kentucky. She went six innings, allowed seven hits, struck out six, allowed one run and did not give up a walk.
Mariah Mulcahy suffered the loss against UC Riverside. She went 3.1 innings, allowed three hits, four runs, two walks while striking out two.
Autumn Pease pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowed four hits, one run, one walk and struck out three.
"We finally played the way we are capable of playing," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "We came up a little short in game two but we competed. Emma had two solo shots.
Kelsea Sweeney pitched a good game to beat Northern Kentucky."
Against Northern Kentucky, the game was scoreless through five innings.
With one out in the sixth inning,
Shayna Dahlen reached on an infield single.
Nicole Calderon, who pinch ran for Dahlen, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Amber Arreola.
Jayden DeMoss then singled to left and
Aubrey Creekmore platted the first run on a single to right field. Later in the inning, DeMoss would score on a Northern Kentucky error.
Northern Kentucky scored one run in the top of the seventh but
Autumn Pease earned the save for the Bengals to preserve the win.
Against UC Riverside, Bordenkecher hit solo home runs in the first and fourth innings but UCR scored two runs in the third and two in the fourth to earn the victory.
The Bengals had five hits in the game.
Idaho State plays its home opener on Tuesday, March 19 vs. Utah Valley at Miller Ranch Stadium. The double header begins at 12 p.m.
