Women's Tennis Crushes Northern Colorado

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team snapped its skid with a dominant 6-1 win over Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon. The Bengals, back in Reed Gym for the first time in four weeks, swept doubles play before finishing 5-1 in singles for the win.
Idaho State is now 7-9 with a 3-5 conference record. Northern Colorado dropped to 6-11 with a 1-7 BSC mark.

"The girls were solid today," said Head Coach Gretchen Maloney. "Their doubles play was aggressive and consistent. In singles, the girls were patient and stuck with their game plans. It was a good day on the courts."

Louise-Mare Botes and Alexandra Arkhipov set the standard with an early 6-2 rout at No. 2 doubles. Shortly after, Hristina Cvetkovic and Megan Poe clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1. Madison Fenske and Melissa Coburn sealed the sweep with a 7-5 win on court No. 3.

Botes struck first once again in singles at position No. 2. She swept Raffa Mora in the first set and followed up with a 6-2 win in the second.

Cvetkovic finished second with a 6-3, 6-4 win, and Poe sealed the victory with a 6-2, 7-5 win. The Bears took their only point in a three-set contest at No. 3 before dropping the final two matches in straight sets.

Angela Walker struck next with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 before Fenske closed play with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

Idaho State has next weekend off before traveling to Utah for matches against Dixie State and Southern Utah April 12-13. The Bengals will return home for their final contest of the season April 18 against Weber State.
