Box Score MISSOULA, Mont. – The Idaho State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Montana at the Peak Racquet Club Saturday afternoon. The Bengals claimed the doubles point before going 1-5 in singles play with three, three-set losses.
"Today we let an opportunity slip by after winning the doubles point and taking control of the match in three of four singles by winning the first set," said Head Coach
Mark Rodel. "Unfortunately, we couldn't keep the momentum going and it seemed like the pressure got to be a little too much. We didn't execute from start to finish and ended up with the loss."
Idaho State took the doubles point after securing wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
David Felix and
Gary Rendek earned the first victory with a 6-4 win.
Francis Filipovich and
Lukas Ridemar clinched the point with another 6-4 victory at No. 3.
In singles play,
Fynn Lohse claimed ISU's lone win at the No. 4 position. The freshman cruised to a 6-2 win in the first set but was challenged by his opponent in the second. The two competitors knotted things up at 6-6 before Lohse prevailed with an 8-6 win in the tiebreak.
All three of ISU's seniors played beyond a second set. Felix won his first set 2-6, but was narrowly defeated 7-6 (5), 6-4 the following two. Similarly,
Peter Trhac won his first set before falling 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. Filipovich rallied back to force a super tiebreak but was topped 6-1, 4-6, 10-5.
Idaho State is back in action tomorrow morning against the Montana State Bobcats. First serve is set for 11 a.m. in Bozeman, Mont.
"Now we've got to regroup and get ready for Montana State tomorrow," Rodel said.
