Creekmore Walkoff HR Lifts Bengals to Sweep of Sac State

POCATELLO, Idaho-  It was a picture perfect ending for Aubrey Creekmore. On senior day, the Bengal senior shortstop blasted a three-run two-out walk-off homer to left field to lift Idaho State to a 6-4 victory over Sacramento State and a second place finish in the Big Sky Conference.

For Creekmore it was her second walk-off win in three games as she hit a walk-off single in game 1 of the series on Friday to beat the Hornets 3-2. In the three-game series vs. Sacramento State Creekmore hit .545 with seven RBIs, one homer and three runs scored.

"When it went off my bat I thought it was a pop up," Creekmore said. "I didn't even think I hit it out. I was like dang. It kept going and then it looked like it was going foul but it went over. Rounding first base I was just jumping. I can't event put it into words what it is like. Senior year and Senior day … It was a perfect way to end it."

After hitting .168 as a sophomore and .176 as a junior, Creekmore is batting .414 with six homers and 22 RBIs. In conference play she is hitting .481.

"I have struggled the past two years with my hitting," Creekmore said. "This season I just broke out and to end it at home in front of our Pocatello community the way I did is indescribable and amazing."

Creekmore was one of five seniors honored prior to the start of the game. Haley Harrison, Mariah Mulcahy, Courtney Wiley and MaKenzie Van Sickle all played their final home game.

Mulcahy pitched the Bengals to the victory. She went seven innings, scattered eight hits, struck out five and walked four.

The Idaho State offense was held to two hits through the first six innings and trailed 4-3 going into the seventh.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jayden Demoss walked and Van Sickle reached on a single up the middle. Harrison then advanced the runners on a sacrifice bunt, which set up Creekmore's three-run homer to left.

"I hit one yesterday and I was like 'Oh no I am going to have to do it again,'" Creekmore said. "I was scared but this is what we prepare for. I have been practicing really hard the past couple of weeks. I told myself to calm down and let it happen."

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Danni Ryan and Emma Bordenkecher had RBIs. Sacramento State then took a 4-2 lead after the top of the fifth inning. The Bengals added a run in the bottom of the fifth thanks to miscues by the Hornet defense.

Idaho State enters the Big Sky Tournament next weekend as the No. 2 seed. The Bengals first game is Wednesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time against the winner of the game vs. No. 3 seed Sacramento State and No. 6 seed Northern Colorado or SUU.
