POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State women's basketball team dropped a 70-59 home contest to Northern Arizona on Saturday afternoon in Reed Gym.
Idaho State shot 35.6 percent from the field while NAU finished the afternoon shooting 49 percent. The Bengals were 12-19 from the free throw line while NAU was 14-20. NAU out rebounded Idaho State 33-31.
Callie Bourne led the Bengals in scoring with 16 points while
Diaba Konate scored 14.
Dora Goles scored 11 points and grabbed a career-tying nine rebounds.
Idaho State led 21-13 after the first quarter. Oltroggee hit two 3's in the quarter and the Bengals led by as many as 14 points at 21-7 with 2:52 left in the quarter.
The Bengals withstood a 21-0 run by NAU between the first and second quarter. NAU would take a 28-21 lead with under five minutes to play in the first half. Idaho State put a stop to the run thanks to a basket by Whitman with 4:37 left in the second quarter. Idaho State then outscored NAU 8-2 over the final minutes to lead 31-30 at halftime.
In the first five minutes of the third quarter the game was close and tied at 38 with 5:02 left in the third. NAU would take the lead for good at 40-38 with 4:45 left in the quarter. The Lumberjacks would then extend their lead to 56-45 with under six minutes to play.
NAU led by as many as 12 at 59-47 in the final quarter. The Bengals got within six at 60-54 but the Bengals would get no closer the rest of the way.
Idaho State is back on the road to face Weber State on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. (MST) in Ogden, Utah.
