POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State basketball team fell in a tough 69-64 loss to Portland State on Saturday afternoon in Reed Gym.
The Vikings shot 46 percent from the field, 39 percent from three, and went 12-19 from the free-throw line. The Bengals shot a season-high 63 percent from three to keep them in the game while out-rebounding PSU 34-31.
Dora Goles led the Bengals with 20 points, going 7-10 from the floor and making a career-high six 3's. Bourne followed with 10 points and six boards. The game marks the fourth consecutive game the two have hit double-digit points.
Delaney Moore produced a season-high-tying six boards.Â
The first quarter was a slow start for Idaho State who only shot 22 percent from the floor against Portland State's 46 percent. The quarter would end with the Vikings up 19-10. PSU hit a 10-point lead three minutes into the second quarter before ISU answered back with a 7-0 run to close the game by two at 24-22.
Montana Oltrogge sunk back-to-back three's with just under two minutes left in the quarter to give the Bengals a 32-31 lead heading into halftime.
The lead didn't last long as the Vikings went up 33-32 just 30 seconds into the third quarter. After shooting 9-12 from the floor and hitting four 3's in the third quarter, Portland State hit a game-high 12 point lead at 46-34 and ended the quarter up 56-45. Goles attempted to combat the Vikings impressive third-quarter shooting by hitting back-to-back threes with under two minutes left in the quarter.Â
The Bengals were able to close in on the lead to finish the game down by four, 69-64, after out-shooting Portland State 62 percent to 40 percent in the fourth quarter.
Idaho State will be on the road for both of its games next week against Montana, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. (MST) and Montana State, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. (MST).Â
