POCATELLO, Idaho– The Idaho State softball team fell 6-2 to UTEP before falling in a close 2-1 battle to UC Riverside on Friday in Riverside, Calif.
The Bengals tallied 13 hits on the day. Isa Cargill led ISU going 4-8 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI.
Angelica Cano was 3-6 with one RBI while
Emma Bordenkecher was 3-7 with a double.
Sydney Stefani,
Shealee Perkins, and
Frankie Tago each singled for ISU.
"We are so close to doing big things," said Head Coach
Cristal Brown. "We left way too many runners on base today and now need some people to step up in the big moments."

ISU recorded eight hits in the game led by Cargill going 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Cano followed going 2-3 at the plate. Bordenkecher doubled in the game while Perkins and Tago each added a hit.
The Bengals out hit the Miners 8-4 while leaving seven runners on base.
A UTEP homerun put them ahead 1-0 in the top of the first before an error from their left fielder in the bottom of the inning allowed Cargill to make it around the bases, tying the game at 1.
The game was held tight through the first three innings before three walks and two home runs in the top of the fourth gave UTEP a 6-1 advantage.
The Bengals would manage to put one more run on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Cano singled down the left field to start the inning. Two walks allowed ISU to fill the bases before Cargill singled through the left side for an RBI, ending the inning down 6-2.
ISU filled the bases in the seventh but was not able to bring them around.
The loss goes to
Mailee Newman who gave up six earned runs off of three hits, all of them home runs.
Kiara Grover came in to relieve Newman in the middle of the fourth inning, giving up just one hit and striking out four.

Bordenkecher was 2-3 with a walk, leading ISU in its five hits. Cano was 1-3 with a game-tying RBI in the seventh. Stefani and Cargill added the Bengals' only other hits. Perkins reached base three times after walking in each of her at bats.
The Bengals left 11 runners on base.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, the Highlanders capitalized on ISU lapses to push across one unearned run.
After each team left runners stranded on third in the second inning, neither team would get a runner past second until a rally from ISU in the top of the seventh. A walk from Tago after back-to-back singles thanks to Cargill and Bordenkecher loaded the bases for the Bengals with no outs. Cano hit a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 1 before heading into the bottom of the inning.
UC Riverside answered back with a double and a base hit to start the bottom of the seventh, putting the Highlanders runners on first and third with one out. A ground ball to second base turned into two outs after Perkins threw the runner out at home. UCR took advantage of their last out, hitting another single to third base to score the winning run.
The loss goes to
Kelsea Sweeney after giving up one earned run, nine hits, three walks, and striking out four in seven innings pitched.
ISU will face UTEP again tomorrow at 10 a.m. (MST) before taking on Santa Clara at 12:30 p.m. (MST).
