POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's tennis team opened Big Sky Conference play on Saturday evening at Weber State. Despite losing, 5-2, to the Wildcats, the Bengals played extremely hard the entire time.
"It was one of the closest collegiate tennis matches and one of the most competitive tennis matches I have been a part of," Idaho State Interim Head Coach Mark Rodel said.
Weber State won the doubles point.
Fynn Lohse and
Lukas Ridemar earned a 7-5 win over Bo-Han Li and Kris Van Wyk. The Wildcats won the other two doubles matches, 7-6
In singles play, Ridemar earned a 7-5, 7-6 win over Van Wyk and
Patrik Trhac beat Li 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
"The guys competed exceptionally well, led by
Lukas Ridemar at No. 1 who won and
Patrik Trhac at No. 3," Rodel said.
At No. 6 singles,
Kyler Hartman lost a tough, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 match to Cezary Walkusz.
"
Kyler Hartman played the match of his career but came up short in the third set, 7-6," Rodel said. "Overall the guys competed exceptionally well. We are obviously disappointed but move away confident because Weber showed they will be one of the top contenders in the Big Sky. That gives us a lot of positive momentum moving forward."
Idaho State is back in action on Feb. 15 at Northern Colorado.
