Dear Soccer,
This isn't goodbye, but just a change in perspective. Although, you are still going to be in my life, I cannot pretend that this is any easier than it is. This switch is harder than waking up at 5:30am for weights. Harder than running 120s until I puke. Harder than anything I have ever had to do in my life. To say that I would give anything to be back in my worn down cleats and smelly gloves again, is an understatement. Despite my reluctance to let you go, I realize that there is still good to come out of this situation. You still have so much to teach me even though this time it will not be as a player, but as a coach, as a parent, and as a spectator.
I will forever be grateful for everything you have given me as a player. Without you, I would have never made it to college. Without you, I would have never found my best friends. Without you, I would have never been able to truly be myself. You have taught me that the best things don't come easy, and to persevere when times get hard. The best thing about you soccer is that you have taught me so many life lessons without me even knowing. You taught me: time management, leadership skills, relationship skills, problem solving skills, mental toughness, and much more. Â Â On top of all the things that you have taught me, you have also taught me not to eat subway ever again, you have taught me that traveling in a bus is not my preferred method of transport, and last but not least, you have taught me that sports bras and spandex make a fashionable swim suit. Although, I think that you have made me quite an admirable person, I do believe that with your next stooge you should take flexibility more seriously, because out of all the countless hours of stretching that I have completed, I am about as flexible as a steel rod.
All jokes aside, I am forever thankful for the time that you have given me. My passion for you grows everyday even though now my title is changed. You will always be a significant part of my life and I will continue to share my passion for you with others. Thank you soccer for molding me into who I am today. Thank you soccer for helping me grow in my relationships with my friends and family. Thank you soccer for making me an Idaho State Bengal.
Love always,
Katie Hogarth
